Avoiding skin allergens
Common triggers
Skin allergies can be caused by harsh chemicals in everyday products. These include:
- Face creams
- Make-up
- Shampoo and body wash
- Perfumes
- Sun cream
- Detergents
Options for sensitive skin
If you have a skin allergy, try to use gentle, allergy-friendly products. Look out for fragrance-free alternatives made without parabens, and shower with warm water to help protect the skin’s natural oils.
When washing your clothes, opt for non-bio laundry detergent, which is less irritating to skin.
Finally, try to steer clear of nickel – a metal that can be found in coins, belt buckles, and some jewellery, which can cause an allergic reaction. Check that any jewellery or belts you purchase are nickel-free.
